A group from Aung San’s Land attacked military council forces who were collecting extortion money near Nyaungkone Police Station in Pyawbwe Township, Mandalay Region, resulting in the death of four soldiers including a warrant officer, and the seizure of weapons and extorted money. The incident occurred around 8 AM on June 26, 2023. During the attack, one police officer and one Pyu Saw Htee member managed to escape.
Following the attack, three MA1 rifles, 64 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition, 180,500 kyats forcibly collected from traveling civilians as extortion money, and two mobile phones were seized from the deceased military council soldiers. The attack was carried out by infantry forces from Aung San’s Land group, who successfully completed the operation within five minutes despite the proximity to the police station, according to a spokesperson from the group.
The spokesperson revealed that it took approximately one hour for military council reinforcements to arrive after the attack. They explained that local People’s Defense Forces are conducting operations with support from local civilians, and stated that larger operations could be carried out with increased civilian support. Additionally, they called on military council members, police forces, and Pyu Saw Htee members in Natmauk Township to defect to the revolution. The resistance forces were able to withdraw safely without any casualties after the successful operation.
