Local residents reported that over 1,000 chickens were killed and five houses were completely destroyed when the military council forces raided and set fire to Say Lei Taw village in Chaung-U Township, Sagaing Region. The incident occurred around 5 AM on May 30th when more than 100 military council troops stationed at nearby Ngan Shan village entered Say Lei Taw village, firing both heavy and small arms before proceeding with their destructive raid.
After entering the village, the military council soldiers deliberately burned down five civilian homes and a chicken farm. They trapped over 1,000 chickens inside the farm building before setting it ablaze, killing all the birds. According to local residents, the military troops departed from Ngan Shan village at 5 AM and arrived at Say Lei Taw village between 6:30 and 7 AM. Villagers had to flee for their lives as the soldiers pursued them while shooting, though fortunately no civilians were injured in the attack. The farm owners reported that the military forces intentionally destroyed their market-ready chickens and shot up the farming equipment with their weapons.
Say Lei Taw village is located only about one mile from Ngan Shan village where military council forces are stationed, and it has frequently been subjected to artillery attacks from these forces. Currently, the villagers have been forced to take shelter in the surrounding forests and mountains. Due to the ongoing rainy season, they are facing severe hardships related to food, drinking water, and sanitation. The displaced villagers are living in makeshift shelters with leaky roofs, struggling to access clean water and proper toilet facilities. Local residents expressed their deep desire for a swift resolution to the political crisis, as they continue to endure these difficult conditions while being unable to safely return to their homes due to the ongoing threat of military attacks.
