
Military council forces launched an attack on Moe Shwe Gu village in Yayphyu Township, Tanintharyi Region, on the morning of August 22, according to local residents. The troops first fired heavy weapons at the village before entering and systematically searching through villagers’ homes, after which they set the buildings on fire. The military operation forced all villagers to flee to safety.
According to a local resident, the military council forces initially shelled the village with heavy weapons before entering and burning down houses. Large plumes of smoke were seen rising simultaneously from about five locations in the village. The extent of civilian casualties or arrests could not be immediately confirmed. Currently, Moe Shwe Gu village is completely deserted while military council forces remain present in the area.
The military operation has forced thousands of people to flee not only from Moe Shwe Gu village but also from surrounding villages in the area. As the military council forces have intensified their operations in the region, local civilians are living in fear, and the number of displaced people continues to increase day by day. The ongoing presence of military forces in the village has prevented residents from returning to their homes, leaving them uncertain about when they might be able to safely return to their community.
