The military council forces have burned down seven civilian houses and forcibly seized civilian properties in Myay Thant Taung village and Kyar Toe village in Nyaung-U Township, Mandalay Region, according to local sources. On April 21, approximately 70 personnel from the military council’s 88th Division, including soldiers, Pyu Saw Htee members, and police forces, entered these villages with four tanks and three military trucks.
The military council troops stayed in the villages for two days, burning down one house in Myay Thant Taung village on April 22, and on April 23, they destroyed five more houses in Myay Thant Taung village and one house in Kyar Toe village, bringing the total to seven houses. Additionally, they confiscated villagers’ valuable possessions including gold, silver, household furniture, cattle, and other livestock, loading them onto military vehicles. Local residents reported that the soldiers systematically looted their belongings before destroying their homes.
A representative from the Nyaung-U Township People’s Defense Force stated that the military council troops had forced residents from Kyauk Pyin Kan, Mye Laung Zar, Myay Thant Taung, and Kyar Toe villages to flee through intimidation, while simultaneously conducting forcible seizures of civilian properties and burning down homes. Local People’s Defense Forces launched mine attacks against the military council troops near Myay Thant Taung village on the morning of April 21, twice on April 22 during their looting operations, and once on April 23 as the military column was withdrawing. These attacks reportedly resulted in potential casualties among the military council forces.
