According to local residents, thousands of civilians have been forced to flee to safety as the military council forces continue to conduct operations and systematically burn down five villages in Pauk Kaung Township, Bago Region. On May 28 at around 10 AM, military council forces numbering over 60 personnel entered Thaik Chaung village and began burning down civilian homes. After destroying properties in Thaik Chaung village, the military forces withdrew during the night. However, they returned to the village around 5 AM on May 29 with three military vehicles and resumed burning the remaining houses starting from 8 AM.
After withdrawing from Thaik Chaung village around 10 PM, the military council forces proceeded to raid Eizok Kwuntaungsu village, where they continued their campaign of destruction by burning civilian homes. On May 30, starting from 7 AM, the military forces conducted two separate burning operations in Eizok Kwuntaungsu village. Around noon, they extended their destructive operations to three more villages – Thaphan Kine village, Myay Nani Kyaw village, and Taung Kan Lay village, systematically burning properties in each location. As of now, the military council forces continue their operations and burning campaign in the area, forcing thousands of local residents to flee their homes seeking safety.
The situation has been further complicated by heavy continuous rainfall in the region, creating urgent humanitarian needs among the displaced population. The fleeing civilians are in desperate need of drinking water, food supplies, and shelter materials. Due to the ongoing military operations in the area, it has not yet been possible to assess the full extent of property damage and destruction in the affected villages. Local residents report that thousands of people have been displaced, and the military forces continue to maintain their presence in the area, preventing people from returning to their homes or salvaging their belongings. The continuous rain over the past three days has significantly worsened the humanitarian situation for the displaced populations, who are struggling to find adequate shelter and basic necessities while avoiding the military forces that continue to operate in the region.
