According to local sources, the terrorist military forces conducting operations in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region, have arrested more than 50 civilians who were fleeing from conflict near Moegwe village. On March 21 at around 6:30 AM, military council troops from Ngathayaw village advanced towards Moephyu and Moegwe villages, forcing local residents to flee for safety.
As civilians were attempting to escape, the military forces pursued and opened fire on them, eventually surrounding and capturing more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who had taken refuge on an island west of Moegwe village. The arrested civilians were taken into Moegwe village, and there is currently no confirmation about potential casualties from the military’s shooting. Local sources report that the detained civilians are being held within the village, though no incidents of arson have been reported yet.
This military column has previously been responsible for killing 18 civilians, including elderly persons ranging from 35 to 91 years of age, from various villages including Myaysunhtaw, Malaka Chan, Thagaung Lay, and Thagaung village proper. Among those killed were U Htun (91 years old), U Than Mani (88 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), demonstrating the military’s willingness to target even the most vulnerable members of the population. The military’s actions continue to show a pattern of violence against civilians, particularly targeting those attempting to flee from conflict zones.
