According to local sources, over 50 civilians were arrested by the terrorist military forces conducting operations near Moegwe village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. The military troops from Nyataw village entered Moephyu and Moegwe villages around 6:30 AM on March 21, causing local residents to flee for safety. As civilians were fleeing, the military forces pursued and opened fire on them, eventually surrounding and arresting more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who were taking shelter on an island west of Moegwe village.
The arrested civilians were taken into Moegwe village by the military council troops. At the time of reporting, it could not be confirmed whether there were any casualties or deaths resulting from the military’s shooting. This same military column was previously responsible for killing 18 civilians, including elderly persons aged between 35 and 91 years, from various villages including Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Thagaung Lay village, and Thagaung village.
Local sources confirmed that among those previously killed by this military column were U Tun (91 years old), U Than Mani (88 years old), Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), and several other elderly residents. The victims also included three unidentified civilians. The military’s actions continue to demonstrate their ongoing campaign of violence against civilians, particularly targeting vulnerable populations including the elderly and children who are unable to quickly flee from their advances.
