According to local sources, over 50 civilians were arrested by the terrorist military forces conducting operations near Moegwe village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on March 21 when military council troops from Nyathayaw village advanced towards Moephyu and Moegwe villages, forcing local residents to flee for safety.
As civilians were fleeing, the military forces pursued and opened fire on them, eventually surrounding and arresting more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who had taken refuge on an island west of Moegwe village. The arrested civilians were then taken into Moegwe village by the military council troops. At present, it cannot be confirmed whether there were any casualties or deaths resulting from the military’s shooting.
This same military column has previously been identified as responsible for killing 18 civilians, including elderly persons aged between 35 and 91 years, from Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Thagaung Lay village, and Thagaung village proper. Local sources confirmed that among those killed were U Ohn (91 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), and Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), along with three unidentified civilians. The military’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilians in the region has forced many residents to flee their homes and seek shelter in safer locations.
