According to local sources, over 50 civilians were arrested by the terrorist military forces conducting operations near Moegwe village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. On March 21 at around 6:30 AM, military council troops from Nyathayaw village advanced towards Moephyu and Moegwe villages, forcing local residents to flee for safety.
The military forces pursued and fired upon the fleeing civilians, eventually surrounding and arresting more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who were taking shelter on an island west of Moegwe village. The arrested civilians were taken into Moegwe village, and it remains unconfirmed whether there were any casualties from the military’s shooting.
This same military column was identified as being responsible for previously killing 18 civilians, including elderly persons aged between 35 and 91 years, from Myaysunhtaw village, Malaka Chan village, Thagaung Lay village, and Thagaung village. Among those killed were U Ohn, age 91, U Than Mani, age 88, and Daw Hla Ngwe, age 86, along with other elderly residents. The military’s actions continue to demonstrate their brutal treatment of civilians, particularly targeting vulnerable populations including the elderly and children who are unable to quickly escape their operations.
