According to local sources, over 50 civilians were arrested by the terrorist military forces conducting operations near Moegwe village in Yesagyo Township, Magway Region. The incident occurred around 6:30 AM on March 21, when military council troops from Nyathayaw village advanced towards Moepyu and Moegwe villages, forcing many local residents to flee for safety.
As civilians were fleeing, the military forces pursued and opened fire on them, eventually surrounding and capturing more than 50 people, including elderly persons and children, who had taken refuge on an island west of Moegwe village. The arrested civilians were then taken into Moegwe village by the military council troops. It remains unconfirmed whether there were any casualties or deaths resulting from the military’s shooting during this operation.
The military column responsible for these arrests is the same unit that previously killed 17 civilians, including elderly persons aged between 35 and 91 years, from various villages including Myaysunhtaw, Malaka Chan, Thagaung Lay, and Thagaung village proper. Among those previously killed were U Htun (91 years old), U Thanmani (88 years old), Daw Hla Ngwe (86 years old), and younger victims including Ko Thant Zin (35 years old), Ko Aung Linn Naing (40 years old), and U Than Min Hlaing (42 years old). The military’s actions continue to demonstrate their ongoing campaign of violence against civilians in the region, targeting both elderly residents and younger people indiscriminately.
