A military council convoy was attacked with mines by People’s Defense Forces (PDF) after burning civilian homes in Balaba village, Seikphyu Township, Magway Region, with possible casualties among military personnel, according to a PDF official. The incident occurred around 4:30 PM on April 24, when four military vehicles carrying troops were returning to Light Infantry Battalion 258 after setting fire to civilian homes in Balaba village. The PDF forces launched a mine attack on the convoy along their return route.
While casualties among military council troops are believed to have occurred, the exact numbers could not be confirmed. The convoy consisted of four vehicles carrying an estimated 150-200 troops. The PDF official stated that they planted three mines to target the convoy as it was returning to LIB 258 after burning civilian homes. The vehicles briefly stopped after the attack before continuing their retreat. The mines used in the attack were reportedly made from unexploded 120mm and 80mm howitzer shells previously used by the military council forces, which were repurposed into high-powered explosive devices.
The attack was carried out by members of the Seikphyu Township PDF, who successfully withdrew from the area without any casualties. The PDF has announced that similar operations will continue in the future. The attack was specifically targeted at military council forces who had just committed acts of destruction against civilian property, burning homes in Balaba village. The PDF maintains its stance of protecting civilians while targeting military council forces who commit violence against the local population.
