The military council forces have been continuously conducting airstrikes on Mogok and Naung Cho townships, which are under the control of the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA) in Mandalay Region, according to local residents. On May 4th morning, the military conducted an airstrike on Sin Kwa village in western Mogok, following another attack on Sin Kwa Forest Monastery the previous night at 9:50 PM on May 3rd. While there were no casualties reported from the night attack, the details of the morning strike’s impact remain unclear, according to local sources.
A local resident reported that people in the area are living in fear, unable to sleep, eat, or move freely due to the continuous airstrikes, with surveillance aircraft constantly flying overhead. In Naung Cho Township of Northern Shan State, the military also conducted an airstrike on War Bo Kone village at 8 PM on May 3rd, resulting in injuries to one child. On May 2nd, fighter jets dropped four bombs on Lon Way village in Naung Cho Township, with two exploding and two remaining unexploded. The continuous aerial attacks have severely disrupted civilian life in these areas.
On May 3rd at 9:02 AM, military council fighter jets bombed the civilian-populated Ka Thet ward in western Mogok Township, resulting in the death of one mason. These intensified aerial attacks began following the breakdown of peace talks between the TNLA and the military council, which were mediated by China in Kunming on April 28th and 29th. Since the failure of these negotiations, the military council has escalated its air campaign, significantly impacting the daily lives of local residents. The military’s aggressive response to the failed peace talks has created an atmosphere of constant fear and uncertainty among the civilian population in these areas.
