The military council conducted airstrikes on Ingapu and Lemyethna Townships in Ayeyarwady Region early morning on April 9, according to local residents. Fighter jets dropped bombs twice around midnight, targeting forested areas within Ingapu Township. Local sources confirmed that these airstrikes were carried out deliberately by the military council despite there being no active fighting in the area at the time.
In previous days, there had been clashes between revolutionary forces led by the Arakan Army (AA) and military troops in Ingapu Township, resulting in the military having to abandon several security outposts consecutively. Additionally, the military council conducted two separate airstrikes using armed helicopters near Warthawkwin village in Lemyethna Township, with bombs exploding in ravines west of Warthawkwin and other locations, according to local residents.
Although the military council announced a temporary ceasefire from April 2 to April 22, supposedly for earthquake relief and reconstruction efforts, they have continued to conduct military operations and airstrikes, as reported by the National Unity Government (NUG) and revolutionary forces. While the military council claims they are adhering to the ceasefire and accuses ethnic armed organizations of violations, evidence shows the military continues to commit war crimes against civilian populations. The ongoing airstrikes and military operations demonstrate the military council’s disregard for their own announced ceasefire, even as they attempt to portray themselves as the party respecting the agreement.
