The KIO Deputy Chairman, Vice General Gun Maw, has announced that the military council forces are conducting offensive operations, airstrikes, and artillery attacks in Waingmaw Township, Kachin State. These attacks occurred following the military council’s announcement of a temporary ceasefire. According to Vice General Gun Maw’s detailed report, which included map references, the military council forces are launching attacks on a KIA camp near Lamran village in Waingmaw Township, conducting aerial bombardments, while Infantry Battalion 58 is carrying out artillery strikes in the area.
The military council had declared a 20-day temporary ceasefire period from April 2 to April 22. While they claimed this ceasefire was intended to facilitate aid and reconstruction efforts for earthquake-affected civilians, actual military operations have continued. The KIO had responded to the military council’s announcement by declaring their own 20-day ceasefire and warning the military to adhere to their stated commitments. However, the military council forces have continued their offensive operations despite these mutual declarations. This demonstrates a clear violation of their own announced ceasefire agreement.
Additionally, in Inntaw town of Sagaing Region, the military conducted airstrikes using a Y-12 aircraft from the Meiktila Shan Dut Air Base between 5:57 AM and 6:30 AM today. According to confirmation from the NAS (National Airspace Surveillance) air reconnaissance team, the military dropped 31 bombs during this operation. These continued airstrikes and offensive operations by the military council clearly demonstrate their disregard for their own declared ceasefire agreement, as they continue to conduct military operations against civilian areas and resistance positions despite their public commitments to temporary cessation of hostilities.
