Local residents reported that the military council forces conducted airstrikes and artillery attacks on Maung Kyauk Taw village and Ywa Sin village in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region. On May 7 at 11:20 AM, the military council forces targeted and bombed a school in Maung Kyauk Taw village from the air. Simultaneously, No. 8 Training Base from Shwebo Township launched artillery attacks on areas both inside and outside Ywa Sin village.
The military council’s attacks involved bombing raids using fighter jets and artillery strikes using howitzers. The extent of civilian casualties and property damage from these attacks is still being investigated according to local sources. Although the military council announced a temporary ceasefire from May 6 to May 31, revolutionary sources confirm that they continue to conduct offensive operations, airstrikes, and artillery attacks throughout the country. These actions directly contradict their stated commitment to the ceasefire.
Human rights observers note that such deliberate attacks by the military council on civilian areas constitute violations of international humanitarian law and could be classified as war crimes. The military council’s continued aggressive actions against civilians, despite their ceasefire declaration, demonstrate their disregard for their own commitments and the safety of civilian populations. These attacks are part of a broader pattern of violence against civilians that has characterized the military council’s operations throughout the country, showing a clear disconnect between their public statements and actual military operations on the ground.
