In an incident on the Taungdwin Gyi-Myothit road in Magway Region, Captain Naing Thu Ra from the military council, who was in transit for a transfer, was initially captured alive by the Bissonor People’s Defense Force but was later killed during an attempted arrest after he tried to seize a weapon. The incident occurred around 10 AM on July 22, when the Taungdwin Gyi Battalion of the Bissonor People’s Defense Force conducted a surprise check on a civilian vehicle, leading to the captain’s capture.
During interrogation, it was revealed that Captain Naing Thu Ra was an officer being transferred from the Border Guard Force in Myawaddy to Infantry Battalion 29 in Myitkyina, planning to travel there via air from Mandalay. After his capture, he was being taken to the camp for further questioning. When the captain requested to use the bathroom, his handcuffs were removed. However, during this time, he threatened to kill a PDF member by spitting at him and attempted to wrestle and seize a weapon, which led to his death during the ensuing confrontation.
A responsible official from the Bissonor People’s Defense Force Taungdwin Gyi Battalion expressed regret over the incident, stating that they had intended to capture him alive due to the significant loss of human resources in Myanmar. The PDF has issued warnings to military council officers and personnel not to resist when captured by revolutionary forces. The Taungdwin Gyi Battalion of the Bissonor People’s Defense Force has committed to ensuring the safety of prisoners of war and stated they will fully comply with and operate according to the Prisoners of War Law issued by the National Unity Government (NUG).
