
The military council has set fire to Taungpyat village in Htaukkyant village tract, Minle Township, Bago Region West, forcing local residents to flee. The arson attack occurred around 1 PM on June 20, when military forces entered the village and began burning buildings. After setting fire to the village, the troops retreated toward Sintin Creek area. Although rain helped reduce the intensity of the fires, the full extent of damage cannot be determined due to communication lines being cut off in the area.
Earlier in the day, clashes erupted between the military council forces and revolutionary groups. On June 16 at around 4 PM, revolutionary forces launched an attack on the military council’s Tarsone checkpoint near Ohtwin village in Minle Township, leading to intense fighting. During these clashes, Lieutenant Colonel Zaw Myint Win, a member of the Bago Region West Administrative Body, and Major Phyo Min Oo, a member of the Oktho Township Administrative Body, were killed.
The fighting in Minle Township resulted in at least 20 military council casualties, including administrative body members from Bago Region West and Oktho Township, District Police Chief Soe Khaing, and a town police station chief. Currently, the military council is launching a major offensive along the Yangon-Pyay road in Minle Township, using armored vehicles from the Pyay Regional Operations Command. Local civilians continue to flee to safety as the security situation remains unstable in the area.
