Local sources report that the terrorist military council has been burning vehicles belonging to jade mining companies and arresting and beating company staff in the Lonekhin mining area of Hpakant Township. On June 4th in the afternoon, military council forces entered the Mawsizar jade mining block in the Lonekhin area, where they set fire to company vehicles, arbitrarily beat company employees, and conducted aggressive interrogations of staff members within the mining compound.
These acts of violence by military council forces have been ongoing for three consecutive days since May 31st, when they first burned vehicles and buildings belonging to Company 111 in the Mawsizar mining block of Lonekhin village tract. Subsequently, on June 3rd at 8:45 AM, they continued their destruction by burning more operational vehicles and backhoes within the same company compound. Later that day at 1:00 PM, they launched a drone attack on an explosives storage facility in the Tin Aung Kyaing mining block. Local residents have confirmed these incidents of deliberate destruction.
The military offensive in the Hpakant region has caused significant concern among local residents, leading to the suspension of jade mining operations and resulting in substantial economic impacts. Since their advancement into the area, military council forces have been engaging in the unlawful destruction of civilian property and the torture of innocent civilians. Local residents are increasingly worried about the safety of their lives and property, and are calling for intervention from the international community. The ongoing military operations have severely disrupted the region’s jade mining industry, which serves as a crucial source of livelihood for many local residents, while the military council continues its pattern of destruction and human rights violations against civilians.
