The military council has blacklisted medical doctors who completed their studies in December 2020 at medical universities across Myanmar, denying them their medical degrees for refusing to serve under the military administration. Under orders from Min Aung Hlaing, Health Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win has implemented travel restrictions affecting 1,022 doctors, preventing them from leaving the country.
These doctors made the conscious decision not to work under the military council as a form of resistance. The military council has responded by withholding their medical degrees and implementing travel bans as punishment for their political beliefs. The doctors have stated that they are being oppressed by the military council despite having no political affiliations. The military’s actions appear to be deliberately targeted at pressuring these medical professionals.
The military council’s systematic oppression includes withholding medical degrees, refusing to issue passports, and implementing travel bans – all calculated moves to pressure the doctors into compliance. These oppressive measures have severely impacted the doctors’ future opportunities and professional careers. The doctors have emphasized that these restrictions are being imposed purposefully to control their movement and professional development, despite their right to practice medicine and pursue their careers freely.
