The military council has blacklisted medical doctors who completed their studies in December 2020 from various medical universities across Myanmar, denying them their medical degrees for refusing to serve under the military administration. Dr. Soe Khaing Win, the military council’s Minister of Health, acting under Min Aung Hlaing’s orders, has implemented travel restrictions affecting 1,022 doctors, preventing them from leaving the country.
These medical professionals, despite successfully completing their education, are facing oppression under political pretexts. They are being denied not only their medical degrees but also their medical practice licenses and international travel rights. The military council is attempting to force these doctors to work under their administration, taking punitive actions against those who refuse to comply. This systematic oppression has created significant challenges for these medical professionals who have dedicated years to their education and training.
Dr. Wan, one of the affected doctors, stated that despite having no involvement in political matters, they are being deliberately targeted and oppressed by the military council. The restrictions on medical degrees, licenses, and international travel have severely impacted their ability to practice medicine and advance their careers. This situation has created uncertainty for the future of these medical graduates and has hampered their ability to utilize their skills in providing healthcare services to the public. The military council’s actions represent a significant violation of these professionals’ rights and have serious implications for Myanmar’s healthcare system and its people’s access to medical care.
