The military council has blacklisted medical graduates who completed their studies in December 2020 from universities across Myanmar, denying them their medical degrees for refusing to serve under the regime. Under orders from Min Aung Hlaing, Health Minister Dr. Thet Khaing Win has implemented travel restrictions and other limitations affecting 1,022 doctors. These measures are being enforced despite the doctors having completed all academic requirements and being fully qualified to receive their degrees.
The military council’s actions represent a systematic oppression of medical professionals through political motivations, despite these doctors having fulfilled all necessary academic requirements. The restrictions include withholding medical degrees, refusing to issue medical licenses, and implementing travel bans, all because these professionals have declined to work under military council authority. These measures have effectively prevented qualified medical practitioners from pursuing their careers and utilizing their expertise.
One doctor reported that despite having no involvement in political activities, they are being deliberately targeted by the military council. The restrictions extend beyond just withholding medical degrees to include the denial of medical licenses and international travel permissions. This situation has severely impacted the future prospects of these medical professionals, preventing them from utilizing their skills and expertise in their chosen field. The military council’s actions have effectively created a significant barrier to these doctors’ professional development and their ability to contribute to healthcare services.
