The military council forces have arrested Ko Nay Soe (also known as Thuriya Soe), a Rakhine ethnic resident living in Pyin Oo Lwin city, Mandalay Region. According to the military council’s allegations, Ko Nay Soe was arrested for his alleged connections with the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). The arrest took place around 3 PM on March 15 in Yay Chan Oo village, Pyin Oo Lwin township.
According to the military council’s propaganda newspaper Myanmar Alin, Ko Nay Soe was accused of spreading propaganda on social media with the intention of destabilizing state peace and stability. The military council has announced that Ko Nay Soe is currently being detained at a police station in Pyin Oo Lwin, where legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Ko Nay Soe, who originally hails from Thandwe region in Rakhine State, is known to be an honest businessman who had previously been involved with some Rakhine political parties, according to sources close to him. The military council, which seized power through a coup, has designated the National Unity Government, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, and their affiliated organizations as terrorist groups, and has been arbitrarily arresting those they suspect of having connections with these organizations.
Meanwhile, the National Unity Government, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, and other revolutionary organizations have in turn designated the military council led by the Myanmar military as a terrorist organization. These groups continue their struggle to completely eliminate the military dictatorship system from the country. The ongoing conflict represents a fundamental struggle between the military council’s oppressive rule and the democratic aspirations of the Myanmar people, with numerous civilians like Ko Nay Soe being caught in the crossfire of the military’s widespread campaign of arrests and persecution.
