The military council has arrested Ko Nay Soe (also known as Thuriya Soe), a Rakhine ethnic resident living in Pyin Oo Lwin, Mandalay Region, alleging connections with revolutionary organizations including the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). Ko Nay Soe, originally from Thandwe, is known to be an honest businessman who had previously been involved with some Rakhine State-based political parties. According to his associates, he has maintained a regular business life while having past involvement in regional political activities.
According to the military council’s propaganda newspaper Myanmar Alin, the arrest took place around 3 PM on March 15 in Yay Chan Oh village, Pyin Oo Lwin Township. The military council accused him of spreading propaganda on social media with the intention of disrupting state stability and peace. Currently, Ko Nay Soe is being detained at a police station in Pyin Oo Lwin, where legal proceedings have been initiated against him. The military council claims that he was involved in activities supporting the CRPH and NUG, which they have designated as terrorist organizations.
The military coup council has designated the National Unity Government, the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, and their affiliated organizations as terrorist groups, and continues to arbitrarily arrest those with alleged connections to these organizations. Meanwhile, revolutionary organizations have in turn designated the military council as a terrorist organization and are actively fighting to completely eliminate the military dictatorship system. This arrest represents another instance of the military council’s ongoing campaign of suppression against civilians and those perceived to be associated with the democratic movement in Myanmar.
