The military council has arrested Ko Nay Soe (also known as Thuriya Soe), a Rakhine ethnic resident of Pyin Oo Lwin in Mandalay Region, alleging connections with revolutionary organizations including the National Unity Government (NUG) and the Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw (CRPH). According to the military council’s propaganda newspaper Myanmar Alin on March 17, the arrest was carried out based on accusations of spreading propaganda through social media platforms.
According to the military council’s statement, Ko Nay Soe was arrested around 3 PM on March 15 in Yay Chan Ote village, Pyin Oo Lwin Township. The military council claims he was writing and disseminating propaganda on social media with the intention of disrupting state stability and peace. He is currently being detained at a police station in Pyin Oo Lwin, where legal proceedings have been initiated against him.
Sources close to Ko Nay Soe describe him as an honest businessman from Thandwe who had previously been involved with some Rakhine-based political parties. The military council, which seized power through a coup, has designated the NUG, CRPH, and their affiliated organizations as terrorist groups and continues to arbitrarily arrest those they suspect of having connections with these organizations.
Meanwhile, the National Unity Government, Committee Representing Pyidaungsu Hluttaw, and other revolutionary forces have declared the military council led by the Myanmar military as a terrorist organization and are actively fighting to completely eliminate the military dictatorship system. The military council continues to systematically perpetrate violence and unlawful arrests against civilians, while pro-democracy forces continue their struggle for democracy and freedom, making tremendous sacrifices in the process.
