
The Inle Region Human Rights Group has confirmed that the military council forces and their affiliated People’s Army (PNA) launched an attack on Phayartaung village in Nyaungshwe Township, Shan State. The attack occurred around 1:30 AM on May 15, targeting the civilian settlement located in the southern part of Inle Lake. According to local residents, the military forces and PNA conducted indiscriminate shelling of the village using heavy weapons during the assault.
While no civilian casualties were reported from this attack, the Inle Region Human Rights Group documented that one house was damaged in the incident. Additionally, on May 12 at approximately 10:59 PM, the military council forces carried out another attack on Taungpogwe village and Hopan Nauk village in Nyaungshwe Township. This assault resulted in significant damage to a monastery and multiple civilian homes in the area.
Local sources report that attacks by the military council forces and their affiliated militia groups in the Inle region have intensified this year, with increased targeting of civilian residences, religious buildings, and infrastructure. These ongoing attacks have created an atmosphere of fear and anxiety among local residents, who face daily concerns about their safety and security. The pattern of targeting civilian areas has become a significant concern for humanitarian organizations monitoring the situation in the region.
