A military council aircraft bombed a Buddhist monastery in Kyat Yoe Pin village, Sadaung Township, Pyin Oo Lwin District, Mandalay Region, resulting in the death of one monk and injuries to four civilians, according to a spokesperson from the Pyin Oo Lwin District People’s Defense Force (PDF). The airstrike occurred on June 5 at approximately 5:17 PM, targeting the monastery despite there being no active fighting in the area. The attack was carried out by a fighter jet from the Tada U Air Force Base.
The bombing claimed the life of a 67-year-old monk and injured three men and one woman. The attack also destroyed a ceremonial building within the monastery compound. While the military council had declared a temporary ceasefire from June 1 to June 30, they continue to violate their own announcement by deliberately targeting civilian areas. The military council specifically targets villages, monasteries, and schools in areas where there is no active conflict, conducting repeated airstrikes against civilian infrastructure.
Due to these ongoing attacks targeting civilians, revolutionary forces have advised people to relocate away from areas under military council control and to construct bomb shelters for protection against air raids. The military council’s actions demonstrate a clear pattern of targeting civilian populations and religious sites, despite their public claims of maintaining a ceasefire. The incident at Kyat Yoe Pin village represents another example of the military council’s continued violence against civilians and religious institutions, highlighting their disregard for both civilian lives and religious sanctuaries.
