On August 18 at around 10 AM, revolutionary forces captured Corporal Kyaw Myint Thwin from Military Recruitment Unit 3, who was gathering intelligence about revolutionary forces and their supporters while disguised as a civilian medical worker in Pauk Khaung Township, Bago Region. When captured, multiple identification cards, SIM cards, motorcycle registration documents, and military service ID were found in his possession.
During interrogation by revolutionary forces, Corporal Kyaw Myint Thwin admitted that he was still actively serving in the military recruitment unit, engaging in recruiting new soldiers, and collaborating with Pyu Saw Htee groups to oppress local civilians. He also revealed that he had entered the area under the pretense of providing medical treatment while actually conducting surveillance on revolutionary force movements in the region.
While revolutionary forces were preparing to transfer Corporal Kyaw Myint Thwin to their base, he suddenly attempted to escape. As revolutionary forces pursued him, an exchange of fire occurred resulting in his death. Revolutionary forces confirmed that he was unarmed at the time of his initial capture. According to a spokesperson from the Shwetaung Township People’s Defense Force, this incident serves as a warning that military personnel and their informants will find no safe haven in the area, and encouraged those serving the military council to consider defecting for their own safety.
