A Myanmar National Airlines aircraft operating under the military council experienced an emergency situation during landing at Kunming Airport in China due to a malfunction in its main right landing gear, according to Chinese media reports. The incident occurred on July 14, and while emergency evacuation procedures were implemented for all passengers aboard, no injuries were reported in the incident. The flight, designated as MNA flight UB805, departed from Yangon at 7:13 PM Myanmar Standard Time and arrived at Kunming Airport at 10:25 PM Chinese Standard Time.
During the landing approach, the aircraft experienced technical issues with its main right landing gear, prompting airport authorities to immediately implement emergency protocols. Airport officials successfully managed to evacuate all passengers safely from the aircraft, and subsequently, the damaged aircraft was successfully removed from the runway. The incident highlighted the swift response of emergency teams at Kunming Airport, who ensured the safety of all passengers and crew members during this potentially dangerous situation. The military-controlled airline operates this Yangon-Kunming-Yangon route with Boeing 737-800 aircraft on a regular schedule, with flights operating four times per week on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays.
Myanmar National Airlines, operating under the military council’s control, currently maintains a fleet consisting of two Boeing 737-800 aircraft for international routes and eight ATR 72-600 turboprop aircraft primarily used for domestic operations. This fleet composition allows the airline to service both domestic and international routes, with the Boeing aircraft primarily handling longer international routes such as the Yangon-Kunming service, while the ATR aircraft are deployed on shorter domestic routes within Myanmar. The airline continues to operate these services despite ongoing challenges and concerns regarding the military council’s control over civilian aviation infrastructure and services in Myanmar.
