Two civilians were killed when military troops opened fire on people fleeing in vehicles after a military column entered Myittha Township in Mandalay Region. Around 12:30 PM on September 7, a military column of approximately 50 troops from Sint Kaing village, located between Wetlet and Sagaing townships, conducted a raid on Htan Win Shay and Moe Kyo villages in western Myittha Township. As the military column approached, villagers attempted to escape in two vehicles but were pursued and fired upon by the soldiers.
The military’s gunfire resulted in the immediate deaths of one male and one female civilian from the village. Currently, thousands of residents from Htan Win Shay, Moe Kyo, and surrounding villages have been forced to flee to safety. The military troops, based in Sint Kaing Taung village and North village at the border of Wetlet and Sagaing townships, first advanced towards Moe Kyo village in the morning before continuing their operation northward to Htan Win Shay village.
Additionally, on September 1, soldiers from Sint Kaing North village had previously raided Moe Kyo village, burning down 15 houses and arresting 15 civilians. According to local residents, the military has been systematically carrying out acts of violence, arrests, and destruction of property in the region, forcing civilians to flee their homes in fear. The security situation in the area continues to deteriorate, with ongoing losses of civilian lives, property, and livelihoods. The local population remains in a state of constant fear and displacement as the military continues its campaign of violence against civilians in the region.
