
In Gyobingauk Township, Bago Region, a military column was attacked with mines by People’s Defense Forces, resulting in the death of three soldiers and injuries to seven others, as confirmed by a responsible official from the Thayarwaddy District PDF. During the attack, which occurred in the morning of March 8, the military forcibly detained local civilians to carry their dead and wounded soldiers.
The incident took place around 5 AM when a military column of approximately 50 personnel was advancing through farmlands near Yonechaung village in Gyobingauk Township. As they reached the communication road between Uyin Gyi and Yonechaung, members of the Thayarwaddy District Battalion 3802, Company 6 Black Dragon GBK-PDF launched a mine attack against them. The attack resulted in three soldiers being killed instantly and seven others sustaining severe injuries. Following the attack, the military retreated toward Yonechaung village, taking their dead and wounded with them, while forcibly detaining civilians they encountered along the way to use as human shields and to carry the bodies.
The military column had advanced through farmlands near Yonechaung village via their Alaykon camp when they were attacked with mines on the communication road between Yonechaung and Uyin Gyi. The injured soldiers were heard screaming in pain before the troops retreated toward Yonechaung village with their casualties. While the exact number of villagers detained remains unknown, investigations are ongoing according to the PDF official. The PDF has warned civilians to avoid areas where military troops are present, as the military continues to use civilians as human shields.
