A military column from Yayphyu town in Tanintharyi Region has killed two elderly men over 70 years of age, burned more than 70 houses, and looted valuable possessions from civilians in Myoshwekun and Sawhpya villages, according to local residents and revolutionary sources. On August 18, a military column consisting of over 200 troops from Infantry Battalions 404 and 405 conducted raids on these villages.
After entering the villages, the military column arrested some villagers but later released them. However, they killed two elderly men, including one disabled person, which was only discovered after the column had departed. The military column had moved from village to village after leaving Yayphyu town before finally reaching Myoshwekun and Sawhpya villages. The troops remained in these villages for about a week, during which they engaged in destructive activities.
During their occupation, the military burned down more than 70 houses across both Myoshwekun and Sawhpya villages. They also looted valuable items from homes, including wardrobes, refrigerators, and televisions, which were transported away in two vehicles. Local sources confirmed that the military column is currently stationed at Battalion 25 in Dawei city. The systematic destruction and looting of civilian property, along with the killing of elderly residents, represents another instance of the military’s ongoing campaign of violence against civilians in the region.
