On September 22, resistance forces successfully ambushed and destroyed a military column in Khin-U Township, Sagaing Region, resulting in numerous casualties including a lieutenant colonel and the capture of two soldiers along with significant weapons and ammunition. According to local military sources, the operation was carried out by a coalition of resistance forces including the No. 2 Shwebo District, No. 3 Battalion, Khin-U Township People’s Defense Force (PDF), and PDF units from combat zones (1)(2)(3)(4)(5), along with the Khin-U Township Local Defense Force.
The military column was attempting to move covertly from their base in Khin-U Township to Training Center 8 in Shwebo and Pwu Seti Village in Butkone when they were intercepted by the resistance forces. The ensuing battle resulted in heavy casualties for the military forces, including the death of a lieutenant colonel, a captain, and multiple sergeants and soldiers. The resistance forces were able to withdraw successfully without any casualties after the operation. The military column, which had previously retreated in disarray to Training Center 8 and Pwu Village following an earlier attack on September 18, had returned with approximately 90 troops before being ambushed again.
The resistance forces seized a substantial cache of weapons and equipment during the operation, including four MA-3 rifles, five MA-1 rifles, one BA-63/G3 rifle, one carbine, one BA 100/60MM commando mortar (short), and one MA-5 pistol. Additional seized items included three metal MA magazines, six plastic MA magazines, three BA-63/G3 magazines, one MA-5 pistol magazine, four forward mines, two landmines, four 60MM mortar rounds, one RPG round, two energa grenades, six bulletproof helmets, various ammunition including 286 rounds of 5.56mm ammunition and seven 9mm rounds, and 5,290,000 kyats in cash. This successful operation represents a significant blow to the military forces operating in the Sagaing Region and demonstrates the growing capabilities of the resistance forces in the area.
