
Captain Soe Min Tun, the checkpoint commander at the entrance of U Shit Pin town in Penwegon Township, Bago Region, has been arrested for drug trafficking. During the investigation, authorities discovered over 900 million kyats in cash, diamonds and gold, land plots, houses, and luxury vehicles in his possession. Captain Soe Min Tun, who served at Defense Equipment Factory No. 9, was arrested on the night of July 26 while serving as the commander of the checkpoint at the entrance of U Shit Pin town.
On July 23, authorities seized an Alphard vehicle carrying narcotics in Kamma Township. The vehicle was found to belong to Captain Soe Min Tun, and one of the arrested soldiers was from his unit, while other detainees were civilian followers who lived with him. According to the military council’s announcement, narcotics worth over 12 billion kyats were found in the ALPHARD vehicle seized near Paygyi village in Kamma Township, Magway Region.
Captain Soe Min Tun had rapidly accumulated wealth following the military coup, reportedly through his position at the checkpoint and drug trafficking operations. Sources indicate that factory directors and township commanders from the Defense Equipment Factory may also be involved in these activities. His arrest came as a result of internal military reports, and he is currently under military investigation. According to military interrogation findings, Captain Soe Min Tun had been involved in drug trafficking operations since late 2023. In addition to the over 900 million kyats seized, authorities also confiscated his properties, gold bars, luxury vehicles, and various valuable items and jewelry that had been sent to his parents.
