
A captain from the 591st Infantry Battalion based in Kyaung Village, Ye Township, Mon State, was killed during an attack by revolutionary forces while shopping with his family on September 17. Captain Thein Htike, along with his wife and three other soldiers, was traveling by car when they were ambushed by revolutionary forces at a location along the Kyaung Village road. The incident occurred when the group was heading to the market for shopping.
During the attack, Captain Thein Htike, aged 30, sustained severe injuries and died from blood loss while being transported to the hospital. His wife, aged 50, was shot in the abdomen and wounded, while three other soldiers also sustained injuries and are currently receiving medical treatment. The specific hospital where the injured are being treated has not been disclosed. According to military intelligence sources, Captain Thein Htike was the only fatality in the incident, though his wife and three other soldiers were wounded in the attack.
The operation was jointly carried out by the Youth Revolutionary Force (YRF) and units 3 and 5 of the 27th Battalion of the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA). A spokesperson from the Youth Revolutionary Force confirmed the successful execution of the operation, stating that they had specifically targeted the military group during their shopping trip. The revolutionary forces reported no casualties on their side during the engagement. The attack represents another significant operation against military personnel in the ongoing resistance against the military council in Myanmar, demonstrating the continued coordination between various revolutionary forces in the region.
