A military captain and a soldier from the Satwine military base in Monywa Township, Sagaing Region, were killed in an attack by revolutionary forces, according to a local People’s Defense Force (PDF) official. The incident occurred on April 22, 2024, at approximately 6:45 PM when the two military personnel left their base on a motorcycle.
The revolutionary forces ambushed the military captain and soldier as they were leaving the Satwine military base. Both were killed instantly in the attack, and the resistance fighters seized one MA-11 rifle from them. Local sources confirmed that the deceased military personnel were part of a column that had been conducting operations involving the destruction and burning of villages throughout Monywa Township.
The region has been experiencing ongoing conflict as revolutionary forces continue to resist the military council’s operations against civilians. The military council forces have been conducting raids on villages, burning homes, and arbitrarily detaining innocent civilians, causing widespread fear and concern among local residents. Revolutionary forces maintain close surveillance of military council movements and respond as necessary to protect civilians’ lives and property. The resistance groups state that their actions are defensive measures against the military council’s continued oppression and violence against local communities.
