A military convoy’s advance guard was attacked with mines in Tanintharyi Township, Tanintharyi Region, resulting in the death of two military personnel including a captain, according to a spokesperson from the Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Force. The incident occurred around 5:45 AM on March 12, when the advance guard of a military convoy traveling from Tanintharyi town toward Theinkun village was attacked with mines near Kammalein village by PDF forces.
Following the initial mine attack, a 30-minute firefight ensued between both sides. During the clash, a military captain and a lance corporal were killed, while numerous other soldiers sustained injuries. The attack was planned and executed by revolutionary forces from the Tanintharyi Township People’s Defense Force (PDF). All revolutionary fighters were able to safely withdraw from the area after the engagement, according to officials.
Such attacks have become increasingly common in the Tanintharyi Region, where local People’s Defense Forces maintain close surveillance of military movements and conduct operations against military outposts and columns when opportunities arise. According to local residents, these attacks are carried out by People’s Defense Forces to protect civilians from military oppression and looting in the region. The PDF forces continue their resistance activities to defend local communities from military council forces that have been accused of committing various abuses against civilians in the area.
