Resistance forces successfully attacked and destroyed a military camp stationed at Alatkappa village along the Monywa-Mandalay road in Myinmu Township, Sagaing Region. The attack took place around 8 PM on April 8th, targeting a military outpost that had been established near the village’s central market at the Nine Buddha Temple compound. The camp, manned by approximately 20 soldiers, had been extorting money and collecting illegal taxes from passing civilians and vehicles.
The coordinated attack was carried out by multiple resistance groups including the Myinmu Civil Revolution Force, Sagaing District Public Security Force, Myinmu Township Public Security Force, Myinmu Township People’s Defense Force, Black Eagle Defense Force MMU, Tawchaungoo District People’s Defense Force, and Myinmu Lightning Guerrilla Force. During the battle, the military forces only managed to resist for about 5 minutes before retreating with numerous casualties.
The military’s indiscriminate artillery fire during the clash resulted in the death of a 2-year-old child and injuries to six civilians. After the battle, resistance forces seized various documents and equipment from the camp and completely destroyed five bunkers, according to a spokesperson from the Myinmu Civil Revolution Force. The attack was deemed necessary despite the National Unity Government’s temporary ceasefire announcement due to the earthquake crisis, as the military council continued its aerial and ground attacks on civilians.
Alatkappa village is strategically located on the Monywa-Mandalay highway, with military bases situated approximately one mile to the east and west of the village. Due to darkness, the resistance forces did not pursue the fleeing soldiers but focused on destroying the bunkers before withdrawing. The resistance groups explained that while the National Unity Government had declared a temporary ceasefire to address earthquake relief efforts, they were compelled to launch this attack in response to the military council’s continued aggression against civilians through both air and ground operations.
