Following clashes near Mingon (South) village in Sagaing Township, Sagaing Region, the military forces burned down the entire village, according to local sources. The incident occurred on June 27 after intense fighting between the military and resistance forces. The military reportedly torched houses throughout the village in retaliation for suffering heavy casualties during the battle.
The military has been attempting to launch major offensives against Mingon North village since March, deploying large numbers of troops. However, due to strong resistance from revolutionary forces, they have only managed to establish positions in Shayaung, Kyin, and Chaungmagyi villages. Despite four months of continuous attempts to advance and daily battles, they have been unable to penetrate Mingon North village.
Mingon (South) village, which contained approximately 600 households, was almost completely destroyed by fire on June 27. The military column responsible for the arson included around 500 personnel, with Pyu Saw Htee militia members making up the majority of the force. These militia members looted civilian homes at will and pursued villagers with gunfire, forcing thousands of residents to flee to safety. The military’s actions have caused widespread displacement and destruction of civilian property.
Additionally, on June 28 at 11:44 AM, an Mi-35 helicopter from the Tataoo Air Base conducted three separate attacks on the eastern part of Sagaing Township, according to local residents. These aerial attacks have further endangered civilian lives and property in the region, escalating the military’s campaign of destruction against local communities. The ongoing military operations have created a humanitarian crisis as residents continue to flee their homes to escape the violence.
