In Magway Region’s Myaing Township, the military junta forces have burned down 39 houses and looted civilian properties in Thet Gyi Taw village and Pauk Pin Kine village. According to Ko Shein from M.V.P Revolution Force who spoke to Yangon Modern News Agency on May 7, the military column from Pakokku Division 101 began moving towards Myaing Township on May 2. The troops stationed themselves in Lae Tan village, Thet Gyi Taw village, and Pauk Pin Kine village, where they proceeded to loot civilian properties and burn down houses.
The military forces destroyed the monastery in Pauk Pin Kine village and civilian homes through arson. They also looted properties from all three villages – Lae Tan, Thet Gyi Taw, and Pauk Pin Kine. The soldiers slaughtered and consumed villagers’ cattle and used stolen civilian materials to construct military bunkers. The destruction resulted in the burning of 6 houses in Thet Gyi Taw village and 33 houses in Pauk Pin Kine village. During their occupation, the military buried their dead soldiers in Lae Tan village, leaving behind their uniforms.
The military column eventually withdrew from the area on the morning of May 7, retreating through Taung village back to Pakokku Township. This violent campaign by the military has resulted in significant losses for local residents, destroying their homes and possessions, and forcing many to flee their villages for safety. The systematic destruction of civilian property and looting by military forces has created a humanitarian crisis in the area, with displaced villagers struggling to find shelter and security. The incident represents another example of the ongoing violence and destruction inflicted upon civilians by the military forces in Myanmar’s rural areas.
