
In February, the military council’s unprovoked attacks on villages in Nyaung Shwe Township, Southern Shan State, resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including one child, according to the Inle Region Human Rights Group. The military forces and their subordinate PNA militia conducted 139 attacks using heavy weapons, airstrikes, and drones on villages in the Inle region and Nanhtut village east of Bilu Creek throughout February 2025.
These attacks resulted in the deaths of five civilians, including a ten-year-old child, while nine others were injured. The attacks also caused extensive damage to homes, with some houses burning down due to incendiary bombs. Meanwhile, in territory controlled by the Ta’ang National Liberation Army (TNLA), eight civilians were killed in February after stepping on landmines planted by the military council, according to TNLA reports. In Kutkai Township’s Nam Hseng village, four children were fishing in a stream on February 2nd when they triggered a handmade mine, killing two and injuring two others. In Nam Kham Township’s Ho Hsai village, a 61-year-old man named U Sai Ngo suffered severe injuries to his entire body and face when he struck a military council-planted mine while working in a sugarcane field.
In Hsipaw town, on February 6th, a local resident was killed and another injured when they found and handled an unexploded mine near Myashwegu Monastery, where military troops had previously camped. In Mong Si Township’s Sai Kaung village, two children were playing with a found grenade when it exploded, killing one and injuring the other. On February 11th, two children in Hsipaw Township’s Kunhsaung village were severely injured after stepping on a landmine planted by the military council. On February 21st, two more people were killed and one injured when a bomb brought home by family members exploded while being handled inside their house.
