Police officers guarding a gas pipeline near Min Kan village in Thaung Tha Township, Mandalay Region, have sexually assaulted a 20-year-old woman. The incident occurred on September 7 at around 6 PM when police officers stationed near the Chinese gas pipeline at Bo Bwar Gate near Min Kan village detained the woman under the pretext of inspection. The victim was returning from work and was fetching water when she was arrested.
Although the police officers claimed they would release her at 9 PM, they held her until the following morning of September 8, during which time she was sexually assaulted before being released. While a case has been filed at the Thaung Tha Police Station regarding this incident, no action has been taken as of the current time.
Additionally, starting from September 10, members of the Pyusawhti group from Myingyan and police officers from Hmawbi Police Battalion 5, who are stationed in Yone Si Gyi village in Thaung Tha Township, have sexually assaulted six local women. These women are being held captive in a house where they are forced to sing and dance for entertainment while being subjected to daily sexual assault, according to local sources.
The military column has been conducting daily raids on Yone Si Gyi village and surrounding villages, engaging in theft of civilian property and burning houses. These acts of violence represent systematic crimes against local civilians, with women being particularly targeted for sexual violence. The ongoing situation demonstrates a pattern of human rights violations being perpetrated by security forces against the civilian population, with a particular focus on gender-based violence against women in the region.
