The National Unity Government has indicated that this earthquake could be one of the aftershocks from the larger Sagaing earthquake and has issued warnings to the public.
According to a resident from Mandalay, houses shook during the earthquake. People were already alert due to news of earlier earthquake activity in Yangon, which helped them notice the tremors immediately. Additionally, on May 6 at 10:55 PM, another earthquake of magnitude 3.7 was recorded near Zarap Kwin area in Hlegu Township, Yangon Region, with its epicenter at a depth of 10 kilometers.
The National Unity Government has urged citizens to take precautionary measures and remain vigilant against earthquake hazards. They emphasized the importance of following earthquake safety guidelines, particularly given the possibility of continued aftershocks from the Sagaing earthquake. Furthermore, a smaller earthquake measuring 2.9 on the Richter scale was also recorded in the Hlegu area at 9:40 PM today. The authorities continue to monitor seismic activity in these regions and advise residents to stay prepared for potential aftershocks while following all necessary safety protocols.
