On June 7, local residents in the Letpadaung region of Salingyi Township, Sagaing Division, conducted a public demonstration calling for the ratification of Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO) to save lives. The movement was led by the Letpadaung Region Public Strike Group with active participation from local residents. Protesters carried signs reading ‘Vote ILO Article 33 to save LIVES’ while chanting anti-military dictatorship slogans.
The Letpadaung region has become an active center of anti-military resistance since the military coup. Local residents continue their collective struggle for democracy while opposing the military council’s oppression. This demonstration for ILO Article 33 represents an appeal to the international community to protect the lives and properties of Myanmar’s people. Through this peaceful protest, local residents are sending a message about the urgent need for effective international action to stop the military council’s violence, arbitrary arrests, killings, and various forms of oppression against civilians.
