The Letpadaung anti-dictatorship protest group in Salingyi Township conducted a public movement on March 16 calling for immediate action against the military council under Article 33 of the International Labour Organization (ILO). The movement was carried out under the title ‘ILO implement Article 33 On Myanmar Now 2025′. This initiative represents a significant step in seeking international intervention against the military council’s ongoing violations of workers’ and human rights.
The Letpadaung region has been continuously subjected to the military council’s violent actions, with local residents facing arbitrary arrests, torture, and forced labor. The protest group’s demand for immediate implementation of ILO Article 33 stems from these persistent human rights violations. Article 33 is a crucial legal provision that enables action against countries that commit serious violations of labor rights. The protest movement aims to draw international attention to the military council’s systematic oppression of civilians and workers in the region.
The Letpadaung protest group continues to actively work to protect the rights of local residents and oppose the military council’s unjust oppression. This call for action from international organizations represents an effort to increase global awareness of the military council’s human rights violations. Through this movement, the protest group hopes that the ILO and other international organizations will take effective action against the military council. The initiative demonstrates the continued resistance of Myanmar’s civil society against military oppression and their pursuit of support from the international community to address these violations.
