The Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 6 issued a statement on the evening of August 30, warning that they will take effective action against any individuals or organizations that participate in or support the military council’s sham election. The statement emphasizes that the terrorist military council is attempting to use the illegal 2008 Constitution to maintain long-term oppressive control over the entire population. The KNU Brigade 6 pointed out that this election process directly contradicts the will of the people and involves violence, threats, and forced detentions.
The statement clarifies that the military council’s election is not a genuine or fair electoral process, but rather a mechanism designed solely to secure power for the coup leaders, their family members, associates, and military-backed political parties. The KNU Brigade 6 emphasizes that this election cannot be considered a solution to the current political conflict as it is being conducted through coercion and violence, completely against the wishes of the general public. They stress that this electoral process will not bring any benefits to the ethnic nationalities and the general population of Myanmar.
The KNU Brigade 6 has specifically called on all individuals, religious leaders, social organizations, and both local and international NGOs within their territory to completely refrain from any participation in or support of the military council’s election, whether on an individual or organizational level. The statement includes a serious warning that any person or organization failing to comply with this directive will face effective action in accordance with Kawthoolei law. The announcement emphasizes that this election serves only the interests of the military council and their associates while offering no genuine benefits or positive outcomes for any of Myanmar’s ethnic populations or the general public.
