The Karen National Union (KNU) Brigade 3 officially announced on September 11 that it will take action against those who participate in or support the military council’s election in Nyaunglebin District, Bago Region. The announcement stated that KNU Brigade 3 will maintain its position in accordance with the Central Executive Committee’s statement released on August 26 and will follow the central KNU’s guidance. According to the KNU’s constitution, they aim to establish a federal union of states with national equality and self-determination, and will build a new democratic federal union nation in accordance with nationwide election results that are trusted and accepted by all people.
The statement emphasized that the current one-sided election to be held by the military council’s commission is merely a sham intended to push the country’s people into hell. The military council’s illegal and unilateral fake election is designed to prolong the military dictatorship system and push ethnic peoples and civilians into an oppressed, exploited state of living death. The announcement noted that the election results will only benefit the military commission leadership, their family members, and poisoned political parties under the military’s shadow. The statement warned that those who enter and support the military commission’s illegal fake election are effectively giving the military commission a ‘legal license to kill.’
KNU Brigade 3 warned people, social organizations, political parties, religious organizations and independent individuals in Nyaunglebin District not to participate in the military commission’s unilateral illegal election. The announcement stated that KNU Karen National Union Nyaunglebin District will monitor those who infiltrate and support the military dictatorship’s illegal fake election, and if necessary, will take action against violators in accordance with Kawthoolei law. The statement emphasized that this is not just a warning but a serious matter of protecting civilians from the military council’s oppression and preventing the legitimization of their continued violence against the people of Myanmar.
