The Karen National Union (KNU) forces, while conducting anti-narcotics operations along the Thai-Myanmar border, discovered a suspicious boat in the Thaung Yin River. Upon spotting suspicious cargo on the vessel, they brought it to shore for inspection. The search revealed 499 packages wrapped in tarpaulin sheets containing illicit drugs.
The seized narcotics amounted to nearly 5 million methamphetamine pills, and two individuals who were transporting the drugs were also arrested. Investigation revealed that the drugs were intended for illegal smuggling into Thailand through the Thai-Myanmar border. The KNU forces have intensified their anti-narcotics operations in the region and are continuing to investigate other potential drug trafficking activities.
The arrested drug traffickers will be prosecuted under KNU’s Kawthoolei law, which can impose capital punishment for convicted offenders. The KNU places significant emphasis on combating drug trafficking and implements severe penalties for those involved in drug distribution. Additionally, they are systematically conducting drug prevention and suppression operations throughout the border region. The organization maintains strict enforcement of anti-narcotics measures and continues to monitor potential trafficking routes along the border area.
