The Karen National Union (KNU) Central Headquarters has officially announced that revolutionary forces led by the Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) have successfully captured five villages that were previously occupied by the military council’s forces in Moe Township, Bago Region. During the operation, multiple casualties were confirmed on the military council’s side, including a deputy battalion commander and a warrant officer.
The battle took place around 1:00 AM on April 28, 2024, when revolutionary forces led by KNLA launched an offensive against positions held by combined forces from the military council’s Infantry Battalions 60 and 73. The targeted villages were Naung Kone, Yinteikkone, Yanmyoaung, Ywakyiainkyunkone (Nawklaw), and Taungsu. During the operation, the revolutionary forces also seized a significant amount of weapons and ammunition from the military council troops. The successful offensive resulted in the complete liberation of these villages from military council control.
According to the KNU’s statement, local civilians had been forced to flee their homes and seek refuge in safer areas due to the military council’s heavy presence in these villages. The displaced residents have been facing numerous hardships, including difficulties with basic necessities, livelihood challenges, and psychological stress caused by displacement. The military council’s occupation of these villages had severely disrupted the daily lives of local residents, causing significant losses in terms of economic activities, education, and healthcare access. The statement emphasized the humanitarian impact of the military occupation on civilian populations, highlighting the urgent need to restore normalcy to these communities following their liberation from military council control.
