The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces have launched an intense offensive against the military council’s Infantry Battalion 24’s Than Lel camp in KNU Brigade 7 territory along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State. The attack began in the early morning of May 10, with the joint forces employing drone strikes and 81mm artillery bombardments. According to KNU sources, the offensive operations are being conducted with significant intensity against the military position.
The military council forces are defending the Than Lel camp with airstrikes to prevent its capture. This offensive follows the successful seizure of the Taw Bi Kwee camp yesterday. The Than Lel camp is located east of the captured Taw Bi Kwee camp in the Naw Taya mountain range area. KNLA joint forces are systematically attacking using armed drones and heavy artillery, according to frontline sources. The military council is responding with fighter jets and aerial bombardment in an attempt to maintain control of the position.
Due to the proximity of the conflict zone to Thailand’s Mae La village in Tha Song Yang district, the Thai military has closed border crossing points along the Thaung Yin River and is conducting tank patrols every two hours. Checkpoints have been established along the Mae La road, and the Thai Naresuan Strategic Commander is personally monitoring the situation. Thai military sources at the border indicate they are particularly concerned about the possibility of artillery shells landing on Thai territory and military council soldiers fleeing into Thailand.
The KNU is expected to continue its offensive operations against all military council camps within Brigade 7 territory, with potential fighting likely to spread to other positions in Myawaddy Township, including Maw Pho Kee camp, Kyaw Keh Hta camp, Naw Ta Ra camp, and Wan Kha Thit camp. Currently, following the capture of Taw Bi Kwee camp, intense fighting continues at Than Lel camp, with both sides engaged in heavy combat and the military council employing air power in their defense. The situation remains dynamic as KNLA joint forces maintain pressure on military council positions along the border area.
