The Karen National Liberation Army (KNLA) joint forces have launched an intense offensive against the military council’s Infantry Battalion 24’s Thanle camp in KNU Brigade 7 territory along the Thai-Myanmar border in Karen State. Beginning early morning on May 10, the allied forces have been conducting drone strikes and firing 81mm artillery at the military council’s Thanle camp, while the military council has responded with airstrikes to defend their position.
Following the capture of the military council’s Taw Bi Khwee camp yesterday, the offensive has now moved to target the Thanle camp located on the Nawteya mountain ridge east of the previously captured position. While the military council has called in air support for bombing raids, the KNLA joint forces continue their assault using drones and heavy artillery. The battle site at Thanle camp is located close to Mae La village in Thailand’s That Song Yang district, prompting the Thai military to close border crossing points along the Thaung Yin River and maintain surveillance patrols.
The Thai military is conducting tank patrol rounds every two hours and has set up checkpoints along the Mae La road while keeping river crossing points closed. The Thai Naresuan Strategic Commander is personally monitoring the situation of the fighting in Myanmar, watching for possible artillery shells landing on Thai territory and military council soldiers potentially fleeing across the border. Border area military sources report that Thai forces remain on high alert for any spillover from the conflict.
The Karen National Union continues its offensive against all military council camps within KNU Brigade 7 territory along the Thai-Myanmar border, with fighting expected to spread to other military positions in Myawaddy Township including Maw Poe Kee camp, Kyaw Keh Hta camp, Nawthara camp, and Wan Kha Thit camp. Currently, intense fighting continues with both sides engaged in active combat operations. The situation remains fluid as KNLA joint forces maintain pressure on military council positions throughout the area.
